Family, food and friends

Two friends from Greek and Italian backgrounds have put together an exciting new restaurant in the heart of Subiaco. The Walk Cafe.

Their ethos is to bring to the table the freshest and finest, seasonal produce, cooked simply and perfectly.

What keeps them honest is a dedication to food, family and friends, it’s how they were raised, in cultures where hospitality is a way of life. Where the food is cooked with pride and passion and recipes are guarded secrets passed on from one generation to the next. Where fresh produce changes with the seasons and more often than not comes from the home garden. Most of all food is a celebration to be shared with family and friends. Little wonder that these two ended up in hospitality.

Not a bad start but you need more than passion to create a good restaurant. That’s where they have been lucky to work with some of the best in the business – Geoff Hayward, Kate Lamont, Russel Blaikie, David Coomer and Nic Trimboli.

And lastly you need to put together a team of professionals. In the kitchen that’s Paul and Lukas Vegricht and out the front the affable Jamie, our maitre d and self confessed wine nut.

Lukas has put together a broadly Mediterranean menu revolving around the most delicious seasonal produce, We keep it simple with a twist for breakfast (West Australian food reviewer Robert Broadfield already rates it in his top 3 breakfast places in Perth)

The name may be an old one, but its new owners have given it a whole new look and feel. The brief to architect Julian was to keep it warm, welcoming and relaxed, nothing too “try hard”. With inspiration from Melbourne restaurant Cumulus Inc amongst others we believe he has achieved a classic.

Even though it is a serious enterprise, we have not lost our sense of fun. It is, after all, what we love to do. We think you will see that joy in the food we serve to you and from the smiles on the faces of our wait staff. We hope it is infectious and that the Walk is where you will bring your family and friends.

And remember, if anything is not quite up to scratch, our mothers will have something to say about it.
